Chronology

Here we started

The founder, Yoshimi Doi was born in 1920, at Sakaide, Kagawa. He worked hard to aid family livelihood as second eldest brother of 11 siblings, and started his career of shirt craftsman in Osaka when he was 17. After he got drafted into military service for the Pacific war, he studied under Gunji Takeda, who was famous for his shirt craft quality. These craftsmanship and craft spirit learned from Takeda are passed down to current Do-1 Sewing Inc. In 1952, Yoshimi founded his own factory 土井縫工所(Doi Ho-Ko-Sho) in his small house with his wife when he was 32. As his business picks up with high reputation of his craftsmanship, he moved to lager factory with 10 craftsmen a year later. Furthermore, he moved much larger factory in 1957. In 5 years, factory expanded 5 times larger and number of employee increased to 25.

Growing company during economic growth period

During the years of steep Japanese economic growth, his business had been developed.With craftsmen and assistant women in total 30 people, they manufactured 500 shirts in a day. They had huge amount of order from top shirt manufacturer for export to USA with economic high growth period, and worked really hard from 8am to 10pm, monthly 2days off.

Diversified fashion and order

Along with diversified fashion scene, order also became varied.In addition to USA exports, domestic order for high quality shirt increased.As fashion scene varies, order became fractionalized and mass production became unnecessary. Moreover, at that time sophisticated craftsman commonly stand on their own, therefore lots of craftsmen became independent from 土井縫工所(Doi Ho-Ko-Sho).

New administration

Seizing the opportunity of new business with fashion label that is committed to quality and design, Yoshimi’s 2 sons who experienced other company became Chief Executive Officer and Senior Managing Director in 1982. Along with new administration, they moved its factory to Nakamoto, Higashinari-ku, Osaka, and established Do-1 Sewing Inc. Under the new administration, craftsmen who had left in 1970’s returned to factory and they restarted the production.

Along with diversified fashion scene and consumer’s demand, concept of “Just in Time” and “Quick Response” became necessary. To deal with these concept, new manufacturing system which can handle various products and small lot was established in Okayama factory. The OEM Business with domestic and international high end shirt labels had been successfully developed.At the same time, we opened sales company for selling these shirt to retail store, and opened Tokyo office and showroom.

Prologue to original label

Subcontractor’s framework is unstable since their business depends on their client. Therefore, business environment for sewing subcontractor became worse due to cheaper factory in developing countries. In addition, tendency of order was heading to various products/small lot, and mass production orders were taken by cheaper factories. In light of these negative circumstances, Senior Managing Director Junji Doi started custom made order system which is Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) system. Coincidentally, we were selected as potential company and granted subsidy by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) out of 500 candidates. We made a breakthrough in enhancement of marketing, sales and planning by use of subsidy, and became one of the succeeded model. Fortunately, our production remain in high reputation and business developed smoothly.

To the world

Generation shifted to third CEO Junji Doi, from second CEO Shigeki Doi. We became to have various labels such as dress, casual, ladies and online store. We always aim for finest quality in garments with craftsmanship, and make best effort such as cooperative development of material. In near future, we target more effective and accurate order system for fractionalized and global custom order. With our years of experience, we produce detailed custom made garments like as mass production garments. We are looking ahead to form highly sophisticated automated production line that can produce detailed custom garments perfectly. Our fine quality garments are spreading to world from excellent factory.
